Journey to Sri Lanka’s ancient capital

Negombo → Anuradhapura

Day 03

A full day among the ancient monuments

Anuradhapura

On Northern Sri Lanka Explorer, keep the bags unpacked today and explore Anuradhapura in more depth, with no long hotel-to-hotel transfer cutting into the sightseeing time. Plan time for Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanwelisaya, Thuparamaya, and Jetavanaramaya. If the pace and local conditions allow, the day can also include Abhayagiri Monastery, Samadhi Buddha Statue, Kuttam Pokuna / Twin Ponds, and Mihintale optional for sunset. At the heritage sites, allow time for walking, explanations and photographs rather than rushing between monuments.

Across the dry zone to Mannar

The focus today is Mannar to Jaffna, using the private vehicle to keep the sightseeing flexible rather than fixed to a large-group timetable. Plan time for Giant’s Tank morning scenery, Salt flats and bird-filled lagoons, Sangupiddy Bridge, and Jaffna Market. If the pace and local conditions allow, the day can also include Jaffna Public Library and Jaffna Fort sunset. If the pace and local conditions allow, the day can also include Pidurangala sunset optional and Relaxed evening in Sigiriya. Farewell to northern Sri Lanka

Finish Northern Sri Lanka Explorer with a relaxed final morning and enough time for the drive to Bandaranaike International Airport. Plan time for Relaxed breakfast, Scenic drive to the airport, Refreshment stop if needed, and Bandaranaike International Airport transfer. At the heritage sites, allow time for walking, explanations and photographs rather than rushing between monuments.
